KEN & SANDRA JONES REPORT ON THEIR LATEST VISIT TO CHINA It was a privilege and joy to be asked to fill in for Justin and Lisa Anemaat, ICC’s Team Life Coordinators in Changsha, for the period January to March 2009. We lived in their apartment, rent free, while the family was having an extended furlough back in Australia. We had opportunities each week to visit the project bases and simply walk out with some of the children to give them a break and help them have some exercise and ‘fresh’ air. Two mornings we went to the Rainbow Project in the No.1 Welfare Centre, which is home for the children with profound disabilities, and weather permitting, [and it wasn’t always permitting – cold and wet days stopped us] we would walk out with one or two of the children. On a further two mornings we travelled across the city to the ‘Lighthouse’, looked in on the workshop, then went walkabout with some of the young teen fellows. Back at the apartment we were able to provide hospitality for ICC staff who were in Changsha for meetings or on Pastoral visits. Most folk stayed with us for one or two nights but one person stayed for a whole week! We took the opportunity to have fellowship meals with team members to help them share about their responsibilities, vision, burdens, fears etc., for themselves and the work. Regular Bible ministry was also part of our role and we were encouraged to hear that the messages given were opportune and ‘hit the spot’ in the hearts and spirits of the team members. They usually listen to messages on CD – we heard part of a very good series on the Book of Revelation, but they appreciated the ‘live’ preaching we were able to bring. On alternate Sundays, Ken shared a series from John’s Gospel, six occasions in all, each of which was preceded by a talk for the five Canadian children of the Regier family. Each Wednesday evening, the Team met in ‘our’ apartment, for prayer and worship with a short topical message. Sandra took two of these and Ken, eight. [10 weeks in all]. Once more we have seen the strong and faithful hand of our God in the work of ICC and the lives of individual team members. This is a great encouragement, as were the opportunities to meet with local Chinese Christians and know that the Lord Jesus Christ is building His Church regardless of the political and social environment. It was thrilling to hear of the Bible study groups that some of the team were running for city folk and even an Alpha course being held for a number of the caregivers. Thanks again to those of you who prayed and gave financial support. You are very much a part of this work. Why not go a step further and join one of the ICC China Teams, as did David Walker and Gill Conway? Maybe you’d like to pray about and consider sponsoring one of the ICC kids and make a difference in their lives. Let’s know if you’re interested. Ken & Sandra
