Latest news from Neil and Lynn - July 2010
“God forbid that I should ever teach any adaptation of the Gospel. But I contend that we may serve it up in any sort of dish that will induce the people to partake of it†(Catherine Booth, Salvation Army)
Looking back...
- Thank-you for your prayers for us over the last weeks. Life has slowly returned to normal (whatever that is...) after we were finally able to hold a funeral for Lynn's father. We were very happy with the way the funeral went, and it was good to be able to "move on" from this now.
- The leadership meetings in France were excellent, from almost every point of view, with much to work from and follow up on now. The preceding weeks had been a bit complex, so I was quite worn out afterwards, but very satisfied too.
Zafra
- Summer arrived all of a sudden last week. The kids finish school in mid June, and the whole dynamic of church life changes. It is extremely easy for things to get very relaxed and have a "siesta" feel to almost everything. Pray we may be able to maintain positive and upbuilding church life over this time, with all the different comings and goings that there are - both ours and others'.
- Last week a friend of Lynn's met with us, together with her husband. They are looking for input for their marriage, so this weekend we have the first of what is planned as regular sessions to help them work at their relationship. Pray we may be able to help them, as well as point them towards God.
- Please pray for Juan Jo, who has faced some challenging circumstances recently and has asked for prayer.
Wider Horizons
- At the end of the month I travel to France where I will be speaking at a church leaders'Â retreat 1-4th July. Speaking 6 or 7 times in 4 days, and with my rusty French, will be a challenge! I need to get good time during this month to prepare. Lynn and Laura are coming too, but David is staying in Spain as he will be working as a monitor on an English speaking camp in the north of Extremadura at the beginning of July. We plan to stay on in France after this for our North Africa teams' retreat the following week, returning home (and picking David up en route) around the 15th July.
- In mid June, Lynn is attending a two-day training workshop in Cardiff. This is using the Birkman personality profiling method to understand people better and how to help them make the most of their gifts, work better in teams, etc. It will really do her good to get away and get some input.
Other things
- David finishes compulsory secondary schooling this month, and will be choosing his options for next year (baccalaureate). He will be doing a science based course. Sixteen this August... how time flies!
Thanks for your prayers, as always! With much love on behalf of all of us, Neil.
